SPIN is a partnership initiative between Sandwell MBC and Sandwell PCT’s with input from the voluntary sector.

SPIN was originally funded through the Health Action Zone, a programme that aimed to address health inequalities. The importance of up to date sensitively written information was seen as underpinning much of the programme along with a robust framework that supported inter-agency communication.

SPIN now has over 600 members that regularly provide information for SPIN’s website webwell. The information, mainly health, social care and community related then becomes a part of the SPIN database. The subject-based information provided by partners is either used to populate the broad category areas within webwell or becomes a part of the many partner sites that the webwell system houses.

SPIN offers support to not for profit agencies and community groups in the following ways:

  • A shared database of public information including directories, news, subject-based information and events listings
  • A web presence via the SPIN system
  • Guidance in inputting information onto the internet via webwell
  • Shared best practice
  • Guidance on the CLS quality Mark
  • Setting up on-line forums
  • News letter and flyers
  • On-line social policy monitoring
