The Lobby
A photograph of the lobby at the Big House.
The lobby area has been tastefully decorated to reflect the original layout and decor of the building which is a grade II listed building built around 1705. The staircase has been restored and replaced to its original specification and creates a feeling of open space and grandeur.
On the ground floor are the administration offices, the chauffeurs office, two interview rooms and a door to the cellar. Visitors will see the Armorial Arms (coats of arms) of the existing and old borough councils and the three Emergency Services shields. At the foot of the staircase the photographs of previous Mayors start and continue along the staircase walls to the upper floors.
