Winter Weather School Closures

Parents are advised to listen to local radio stations for information about school closures. Headteachers are asked to report school closures to BBC Radio WM, BRMB, Beacon, Heart and Galaxy.

Incorrect Reporting of Primary School Results

Sandwell's position in national league tables for primary school results has been wrongly reported as 140th out of 150 local authorities across the country.

This is incorrect. Our true position is 136th. Some reports have also masked the improvements made by Sandwell pupils in the basics of English, Maths and Science.

School Meals and Milk

 Sandwell is committed to providing a schools meals service which features high quality healthy foods that are prepared from fresh ingredients from local suppliers, growers and producers.

A two-course nutritious meal and cold drink is available to pupils in Sandwell each day at school. Menus are carefully planned to ensure that your child has an interesting and varied selection of lunches. School menus are also available to view online.

National Osteoporosis Society launches a new educational website for schools.

The National Osteoporosis Society has launched Bones4life.org, an engaging educational website aimed at improving children’s awareness of the importance of good bone health.

Bones4life.org will be an invaluable tool for teachers, parents and children from the ages of 7–10.

Connexions

Young people who need help with finding a job, training course or voluntary work will be able to access Connexions service through Sandwell Council.

The Council’s Young People and Community Safety Division will be responsible for and managing Connexions services.
