School Meals and Milk
Sandwell is committed to providing a schools meals service which features high quality healthy foods that are prepared from fresh ingredients from local suppliers, growers and producers.
A two-course nutritious meal and cold drink is available to pupils in Sandwell each day at school. Menus are carefully planned to ensure that your child has an interesting and varied selection of lunches. School menus are also available to view online.
Extended Schools and Inclusive Learning
The Extended Schools and Inclusive Learning website has now been revamped and re-launched. Schools working in partnership provide access to a wide range of provision that have a major impact on the Every Child Matters outcomes.
Extended Schools and extended learning provides opportunities for parents/carers and the community to access localised provision and are a key element of the school improvement agenda, helping to increase attainment and improve standards.
National Year of Reading
2008 is the National Year of Reading (NYR), which is a year-long celebration of reading in all its forms. It aims to help build a greater national passion for reading in England for children, families and adult learners alike.

National Training Awards Success 2007
Sandwell's ACES (Academic Coaches Ensuring Success) programme was a regional winner at the National Training Awards 2007 for their work which is targeted at Year 11 students who are predicted not to achieve 5A* - C GCSEs. The West Midlands Regional Award was specifically for the learning and development undertaken with the Academic Coaches to enable them to support and challenge year 11 students to achieve their full potential.
Children and Young People's Services also had an individual finalist, Denise Hannibal, Adviser: Pupil Engagement who manages the Learning Mentors and Learning Support Assistants across all Sandwell's primary and secondary schools. Her national award status was for her individual learning journey over the last 7 years after returning to the workplace.
