Parent and Pupils Guide
-
Over three thousand pupils in Sandwell enjoy music making through SYM 's involvement in the Borough's schools.
-
SYM delivers a range of music teaching, from the standard western band and orchestral instruments, to steel pan, keyboard, jazz and Asian music.
-
An experienced team of specialist music staff offer tuition from Key Stage 1 through to A level.
-
We recommend that lessons commence on a an instrument supplied by Sandwell Youth Music.
-
Where parents wish to consider buying an instrument, do please take advice from your child's instrumental teacher. Find out about the Sandwell Instrument Purchase Scheme.
Our commitment to you
- Weekly lessons ( a minimum of 30 lessons per year) taught by a specialist teacher visiting your child's school
-
Free examinations (up to grade five).
-
Ensemble opportunities from the basic levels through to performance groups of national standard.
How can you help your child to succeed in music?
-
We believe that regular "small doses" of practice are better than long periods of practice with days off in between. Please encourage your child to make the best of their time.
-
Listen to your child's practice and encourage them, particularly in the early stages.
-
There will be many opportunities to perform with others, both at school and SYM concerts. Again your support is important.
