Building Schools for the Future

A massive £370m is being spent on modernising Sandwell's secondary schools as part of Building Schools for the Future (BSF), the biggest investment in school buildings in England for 50 years.

Building Schools for the Future

Every school will be rebuilt or refurbished in five waves over the next few years, improving opportunities for generations of pupils and opening up schools to local communities.

Sandwell Futures is the name of the company behind the scheme, a partnership between the public and private sectors.

Work is underway on the first two BSF schools – Smethwick Learning Campus and Rowley Regis Learning Campus.

What BSF means for Sandwell

BSF is about people, not just buildings. It is part of Sandwell's Education Vision, offering the chance to transform secondary education for generations of learners.

Students in Sandwell are entitled to a curriculum which can help them meet their potential, with teachers guiding and supporting learning. BSF buildings will be designed to encourage this, with information and communications technology (ICT) at their core.

BSF is part of a much wider investment across Sandwell in health, housing, employment and urban regeneration.

Virtually every family and community in Sandwell will be affected by BSF, so it is important that everyone has a chance to have their say. Sandwell Council is consulting with all interested parties so that the school they want is delivered through BSF. Read the Consultation Report to see the results of the BSF public consultation which took place in March and April 2008.
