Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTA)

This area of the site provides information, guidance and support for Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTA's).

An important part of the National Agreement was the introduction of a new training programme for school support staff to help the reach professional standards and achieve Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) status.

The agreement acknowledged and recognised the vital contribution already made by support staff to pupils learning and achievement.

It highlighted that senior support staff working in the classroom could make even more contribution if they were offered targeted training: training which re-inforced improving their skills.

Further information about the role of the HLTA is available at the HLTA website.

If you require further information about HLTA Training please contact Kim Whiting - Adviser, Workforce Development on 0121 569 8339 or e-mail kim_whiting@sandwell.gov.uk
