The Council recognises that Sandwell’s present day communities are certainly not sustainable. So back in 1995 it set up the Sustainable Development Team. This Team, together with a range of partners and local communities is working to improve the quality of life for everyone in Sandwell, ensuring that their environmental, social and economic well being is taken into account.
Sustainable Development is the overarching framework which integrates the activities which deliver environmental, social and economic well-being. These activities involve protecting and improving our environment by reducing waste, pollution and the consumption of energy and natural resources. However, within the framework of Sustainable Development equal importance is given to activity which ensures healthy, inclusive and safe communities which are well served and fair for everyone, and which have a flourishing and diverse local economy.
Sandwell Council is committed to delivering its vision of Sandwell within a framework of Sustainable Development. Set out on the left hand side of this page are the main areas of focus where the Council and its partners are concentrating activity to create a more sustainable Sandwell and a healthier global environment.
