Social Care and Health

Health and social care services in Sandwell help to maintain the quality of life of all Sandwell's residents.

Social care services look after the health and wellbeing of the population. The main groups of people that need care and support include children or families who are under stress, people with disabilities, people with emotional or psychological difficulties, people with financial or housing problems and older people who need help with daily living activities.

Health and medical care

On the health page, you can find information about services that can help you to stay well and that can support you if you have issues that affect your health.

Disabilities

Adult and Community Services provides and arranges a range of services to support and care for people with disabilities. These include services that aim to help people live independent lives and services for people who need more help and support.

Social policy

We aim to improve our services by explaining our social policy to let you know what standards to expect and what to do if you are not satisfied with the service you receive.

We are continually working to improve our services. Our storyboards project, "Achieving excellence, improving lives", tells you about some of the adult social care and health programmes we are working on that are making a difference to people's lives in Sandwell.

Social services

Within Adult and Community Services we deal with many issues and work with local providers of care, such as the NHS. Social care services may be offered in people's own homes, in hospitals or health centres, in educational settings, in community groups, in residential homes or advice centres.

In December 2008 an inspection team from the Commission for Social Care Inspection (now called the Care Quality Commission) visited Sandwell to find out how well we were safeguarding vulnerable adults and delivering personalised services for older people. You can read the inspection report here.

Children's Services, part of Children and Young People's Services delivers a range of services for children and families.
