Adult Social Care

Adult Services and Health is the part of Sandwell Council that is responsible for social care services for adults.

In December 2008 an inspection team from the Commission for Social Care Inspection (now called the Care Quality Commission) visited Sandwell to find out how well we were safeguarding vulnerable adults and delivering personalised services for older people. You can read the inspection report here.

Getting the help you need

All Sandwell residents have the right to ask us to assess your needs for support and care.

A health and social care assessment with one of our adult social care fieldwork teams is often the first step towards getting the help and support you need.

You can contact us at any time

If you are an adult and need some help or advice for yourself or for someone you are caring for, contact the adult social care fieldwork team for your area.

We also have an Out of Hours team to help you after the day time services close at night, at weekends and during public holidays.

Equipment that makes living at home safer

There are a range of electronic devices that have been developed to assist people with physical, sensory or mental health difficulties to continue to live at home as safely and independently as possible.

Our telecare service, STAY (Sandwell Telecare Assisting You), can carry out an assessment to find out what you need.

Support at home

Most people want to live in their own homes for as long as possible and we have a number of ways in which we can help you to achieve this.

It might be help with getting out and about or you might need help and support at home. Or you might consider a move to extra care housing where care and support is available 24 hours.

Moving to a care home

Making the decision to go into a care home is not easy. It may mean leaving your own home and familiar surroundings, although there could be real benefits to be gained through new care and companionship.

We can offer help and advice on what to think about when making this decision.
