Day Care

 

Now known as 'Day opportunities' are health, social care or leisure services that help you keep active, learn skills and maintain friendships and social contacts.

Vocational and Employment Services offers training for people with mental health, physical and learning disabilities.

Activities can include arts and crafts, gardening, using computers for learning, outings in the community and other group activities.

Some day care centres provide services for people with mental health needs or learning disabilities and others cater specifically for older people. Lunch may be provided and there may be transport link provided to and from the centres.

Who does it?

There are a range of providers of day opportunities in Sandwell. Examples include,
  • Sandwell Leisure Trust list of leisure centres in Sandwell.
  • Day centres run by the Local Authority.
  • You can use Direct Payments to go out into the community independently.
  • Short breaks for Carers may be able to provide day opportunities for people with disabilities.

How do I get it?

If you feel you would benefit from attending a day centre or community leisure venue then you should get in touch with your local Adults Team, who will carry out an assessment of your needs and refer you to an appropriate service.

Is there a charge?

There may be a charge for some of these services, depending on the amount of service received and individual need and financial circumstances. This will form part of the assessment.
