The Council has adopted a policy that sets out how it intends to provide assistance to owners to maintain and improve their homes.

Assistance is currently provided in a number of ways:-
- Home Improvement Loans through Houseproud and the Council's own Better Homes Scheme
- Adaptations for people with disabilities
- Area Renewal schemes
- Home Improvement Assistance grants including Repairs on Prescription;
- Advice on Home Maintenance;
- A Handypersons service;
- Finding a reputable builder;
- Advice and grants for energy efficiency
- The Home Improvement Agency
