Supporting People

 

Supporting People is a programme, which was introduced in April 2003 to help vulnerable people live independently.

Supporting People Logo'Welcome' text in 8 community languages Sandwell Supporting People aims to deliver high quality and housing-related services, which are cost effective and reliable, and complement existing care services. The planning and development of services is based upon the need of local people. Supporting People is a working partnership of local government, health, probation, support providers and customers that use support service.

The Supporting People team have the responsibility of improving the quality of support which people are offered and ensuring that services are available to meet people’s needs.

Who gets help from Supporting People?

  • Older People
  • People with disabilities
  • Homeless people or those at risk of homeless
  • Young People leaving care
  • Women Fleeing domestic violence
  • People with mental health problems
  • People with drug and alcohol problems

How is Supporting People helping these groups?

  • The Supporting People team ensures that services provide support in:
  • Paying housing – related bills, including rent
  • Making sure that homes are secure and personal safety is upheld
  • Helping with benefit claims and filling in forms
  • Helping people to look after their own money
  • Helping people to take control of their own home (Shopping and Cleaning)

How does Supporting People affect local People?

Any changes to the service will take place at a manageable pace. However, we are keen to know your views on the service that you use, so that you can influence changes that will happen.

Customers of the services may be asked what they think about a service. This may be:

  • As part of the service reviews process
  • As part of an organised forum
  • Through consultation with the organisation who provides your service
  • Through contact with the Supporting People Team
