Mobile and Housebound Library

 

The award winning, state of the art Mobile Library makes regular stops throughout the whole of Sandwell. Each stop is visited every fortnight. It has a wide selection of books and talking books, to cater for all tastes and all ages.

Sandwell's Mobile Library

The Mobile is completely accessible, with a side lift, ideal for pushchairs and wheelchairs. It now has a computer for public use, with free Internet access and free printing, so access to information is now better than ever! Like all Sandwell's libraries, its free to join and free to borrow books.

The mobile library can also be booked to attend special events or to visit groups who want to experience books, reading and ICT services in a unique and informal environment.Inside the mobile library - children's area

Housebound Library Service

Who is the Service for?

    Mobile Library service
  • Anyone who lives in Sandwell , who can't get out to their local library or mobile library stop, because of a disability, illness, frailty or difficulty in carrying their books home.
  • Carers who are looking after the housebound residents and are unable to access library services due to their caring commitments.
  • Residents in Residential/Nursing Homes/Day and Community Centres

What is available?

The Housebound Service offers a free request service for 600 readers for their favourite large print or regular print books, talking books, music CD's and DVD's and customers never pay any fines or charges.

We have recently introduced an enhanced information service for housebound customers. This allows library staff to take the Internet into people's homes and answer customer enquiries. This has helped many customers to choose books what they would like to request by searching the online library catalogue and accessing wider information about relevant services on the Council and other websites.

How often does it call?

Every 4 weeks, except for Bank Holidays etc.

What does it Cost?

Absolutely nothing! It's completely free of charge.
