The Parks and Countryside Management Service is part of Sandwells Cultural Services and provides the strategic management and development of  Urban Parks, Countryside Parks and Community Greenspaces within the land portfolio of Cultural Services.

We seek to ensure this web site is up todate and the current information is valid for summer 2010 and we seek to update information on average every 4 weeks.

The national bench mark for excellence is Green Flag Award, and we have achieved 4 Green Flags for Town Parks in Rowley Regis, Smethwick and Tipton along with Sandwell valley Country Park and with partner Warley Woods Community Trust we have 5. For 2010 we submitted Green Flag applications for Haden Hill Park, Victoria Park Tipton, Victoria Park Smethwick and Sandwell Valley Country Park West Bromwich and have been succesful in achieving all the applications.

Our Service recognises the Council's corporate Priorities and seeks to support areas that impact upon Sandwell's local communities:

  • Active and well people
  • A safe and clean place to live
  • Educated and skilled people in employment

We manage 1,483 acres of Parks and Green Spaces including allotments, outdoor sports facilities and play area provision. Grounds maintenance is undertaken by the Councils Grounds Maintenance, litter collection is carried out by Cleansing Services (due to transfer to an external partner in 2010) within Highways and Environment Services through a green budget.

We also provide the maintenance and management of a number of important conservation areas within Sandwell Valley and local nature reserves.

There are a number of policy documents that provide the strategic framework for service delivery and investment.

In 2010 we published our Green Space Strategy with our partners following cabinet approval. This will provide the policy and management for the Parks and Countryside Service for 2010 to 2020.

Included within our service is major public events such as the annual Sandwell Show, The Historic Vehicle Show, Civic Bonfire and Fireworks Display and St Georges Day. Details of these events and more may be obtained from the Diary of Events. We are also able to offer advice and guidance to anyone wishing to organise a major event within Sandwell.

Many of our Parks are available for hire, either for fetes or community events, whilst a number provide outdoor sports facilities such as Bowling Greens, Cricket facilities and Football pitches. If you wish to enquire about the availability of our facilities please use the contact details below.
