Parks in Sandwell

Sandwell is unique amongst the metropolitan borough councils of England in that it is the only such borough that has no access to adjoining countryside, being totally enclosed within the conurbation of the West Midlands.

Sandwell’s Greenspace Audit identified 539 green areas, equating to a total area of just over 2,000 hectares, or 24% of the entire area of the Borough.

The Parks and Countryside Management Service holds the management responsibility for approximately 50% of these sites, including all those parks, playing fields and greenspaces that provide a significant recreational value for our visitors and users alike.

Sandwell consists of the six former Black Country towns of Oldbury, Rowley Regis, Smethwick, Tipton, Wednesbury and West Bromwich, each of which provides a variety of Urban Parks and Greenspaces with their own individual character.
