Dartmouth Park
Dartmouth Park is very close to West Bromwich town centre and is open during daylight hours for everyone and anyone to use. Here you'll find details about the project which aims to restore the park to its former glory.
The Heritage Lottery Fund in association with BIG Lottery under the Parks For People Programme has awarded £4.4 million of a £6.3 million restoration project. Restoration work started on site in October 2009 with contracts for the restoration of the War Memorial and the Herbert Street entrance. It's still not too late for you to get involved and tell us your thoughts through the Friends of Dartmouth Park. They have their own web site at:-
www.friendsofdartmouthpark.org.uk
Please visit the Friends web site for details of events, activities and community history of the park. The site is independant of Sandwell MBC and gives local people an opportunity to contact the friends and get involved in supporting the group.
For a more in-depth look at the park - its history, its current situation and the plans for its future take a look under the following headings:Dartmouth Park in the Past
Historical information about the park, including pictures and paintings dating back to Victorian times. You can find out how and when the park was created and when features were added throughout the years.
Dartmouth Park in the Present
Dartmouth Park is an historic park located between West Bromwich town centre and Sandwell Valley. It contains a wide range of floral displays, two lakes, a children’s play area and sweeping views of Sandwell Valley.
Dartmouth Park in the Future from 2010 onwards
Over the years, many of the original features in the park have been lost or altered. But now it is the focus of the wider regeneration of West Bromwich town centre. Plans have being drawn up to make the park a superb facility for the whole town to enjoy once more. The main contract work on improving the park has commenced in 2010. It is anticipated the restoration will be completed by the end of 2012 including a new community pavilion and large skate park. We have also been awarded Adizone outdoor gym equipment for the park that will be installed in 2010.
