The Sandwell Urban Rangers provide a mobile and static visible presence in parks, green spaces, play areas, cemeteries and crematoria. Our aim is to maintain a safe environment for all users. We respond to incidents reported by the general public as well as internal and external agencies. Incidents include anti-social behaviour , health and safety issues and general enquiries.
The 14 members work on a 2 shift system, 364 days per year.
Saturday - Sunday - 09.00am - 9.00pm (Sept - Apr)
Saturday - Sunday - 10.00am - 10.00pm (May - Aug)
Monday - Friday - 7.00am - 10.00pm.
We can be easily identified by our brown uniform with the Ranger Service badges. We patrol the parks on foot and in vehicles; undertaking regular health and safety inspections, park surveys and incident reporting, and also ensuring that specific parks, park facilities and cemeteries are locked and secured at the appropriate closinq times.
The Sandwell Urban Ranger Service responds to any customer concerns and enquiries. We enforce model byelaws , report any infringements and deal with emergencies as necessary.
We also work closely with local sports associations, such as football leagues, cricket leagues, bowls clubs etc. We open and close dressing room venues for pre arranged fixtures made through our parks booking office , providing an out of office hours service to ensure that sporting activity is accommodated even for instance during inclement weather.
The Urban Rangers assist in consultation processes with key stakeholders on park related issues and new projects and promote an educational programme to involve all ages of the community to utilise the wide and varied parks facilities, that Sandwell has to offer.
We support numerous community events staged within our parks, which includes the Sandwell Show, the Historic Vehicle Show, annual bonfire, band concerts and other local events organised by commercial and voluntary organisations as well as parks friends groups.
