Emergency Planning
Sandwell M.B.C. has a specific unit that deals with Major Emergencies and produces plans in preparation for any Major Emergency that may occur.
This unit is called the Resilience Unit and is made up of two components. The first component is Emergency Planning. This side of the unit creates plans for known risks throughout the Borough by working with the local community and partner agencies. The second component is Business Continunity. This side of the unit offers help and advice to the council and the businesses within the local area on the creation of Continuity plans to ensure that if an emergency happens, the business can survive and carry on delivering its service.
The Unit creates plans for risks that have been identified in Sandwells Community Risk Register. The register is a document that has being created in line with guidance from the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, and with the help of our partner agencies. It highlights risks that we have here in Sandwell and rates them on scales of liklihood and impact. The Sandwell Risk Register will be published on here shortly and will be available for you to download.
With risks identified, the emergency planning officers can begin to create plans of how an incident concerning that risk should be handled. Many risks will be covered under the Major Emergency Plan for Sandwell, but others may need a more specific plan. These pages will take you through the risks that we prepare for within Sandwell and will give guidance on how you can prepare at home for an incident.
The otherside of the unit deals with Business Continuity. This is a process where a plan is created in order to help the businesses of Sandwell continue after experuiencing an incident. The Council also uses this process to make sure that in the event of an incident they can carry on providing their services to the community. You can also find out how Business Continuity affects the local community and businesses within Sandwell, and how you can write a continuity plan to help your business survive an incident.
