The Safer Sandwell Partnership is responsible for strategic and operational delivery of work to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, reduce offending, tackle fear of crime and promote public reassurance, improve liveability and address problematic drug and alcohol use in Sandwell. It is also working with the Sandwell Partnership to improve community cohesion across the Borough.

The Partnership will:

  • Maintain a strategic overview of trends in relation to crime, offending and re-offending; anti-social behaviour, fear of crime, liveability, drugs and alcohol in the Borough, and determine priorities for action and set targets for improvement in relation to these issues
  • Ensure these actions are implemented, performance is monitored and corrective action taken where necessary.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the actions undertaken.
  • Seek and allocate resources within its remit in line with the agreed priorities.
  • Ensure that the work is consistent with and complementary to other relevant agencies' plans and strategies.
  • Maintain clear and positive relationships with other related partnerships, forums and groups.
  • Regularly consult local communities and businesses about their views and priorities.
  • Ensure that due account is taken of social cohesion and diversity issues including those related to priority groups, neighbourhoods and communities.
  • Publicise and feedback its work to encourage greater community confidence.

The Partnership has identified the following Strategic Outcomes for 2006/07:

Outcome 1 - Reduce anti-social behaviour, increase public reassurance and build respect in communities

Outcome 2 - Create safer, cleaner, greener public spaces

Outcome 3 - Reduce crime - including burglary, vehicle crime and violent crime

Outcome 4 - Reduce offending and re-offending - Youth Offending Team and Prolific and Priority Offending

Outcome 5 - Improve community cohesion

Outcome 6 - Tackle domestic violence

Outcome 7 - Reduce harm caused by drugs

Outcome 8 - Tackle alcohol-related disorder and reduce harm from alcohol misuse

Overall crime in Sandwell has fallen dramatically over the past few years - down 30.1% in 2005/06 compared to 2002/03, representing more than 12,000 fewer victims. Download a copy of the Annual Review 2007 published by Sandwell Council for the Safer Sandwell Partnership, February 2007.
