Road and Pathway Maintenance
Road and Footway Maintenance (potholes, loose paving flags and kerbs, tree roots, etc)
The Council carries out maintenance work on the public highway to comply with statutory obligations prescribed in the Highways Act 1980 and other legislation. In addition to this minimum requirement the Highway Services aim is to provide safe, unobstructed public highways that enhance the environment for all highway users.
The work falls into three categories; planned preventative, routine and emergency. Planned preventative work constitutes the most effective way of maintaining the basic highway infrastructure such as carriageway or footway surfaces and street lighting as the economies of scale and advanced planning deliver value for money maintenance.
The programme of work is evaluated each financial year based on strict measurement of the condition of a highway asset and the budget available for the year.
We provide details of planned work for 2007 / 2008 for Carriageway resurfacing or reconstruction, Footway Paving resurfacing and Street Lighting improvements.
We are also responsible for the management and maintenance of all road markings applied to the footway and carriageway surfaces on the public highway.
You can use our online form to report problems with road markings.
