How do I report a blocked road gully/watercourse grid?
Gully grids, generally located at the side of the roads to take away the rainwater, are the responsibility of Sandwell Council to maintain and clean. Watercourse grids are generally the responsibility of the owner of the property through which the water flows to maintain. To report any blockage of a road gully or watercourse grid during normal working hours telephone 0121 569 4121 or if it is outside normal working hours telephone 07867 506556.
How often are the gullies cleansed?
All roadside gullies are generally cleansed at least once a year and quarterly at known flooding locations.
What happens if I drop my keys down a road gully?
We can arrange for the Gully Tanker crew to attend during normal working hours telephone 0121 569 4121. If it is outside normal working hours telephone 07867 506556.
Who is responsible for maintenance?
The Local Authority is responsible for maintaining the adopted highway drainage system only. This includes road gullies, channels and drains, roadside drainage ditches and dealing with flooding on, and because of, rainwater flowing from the highway. The Council does not maintain gullies on un-adopted and private roads.
Is there a charge?
We do not charge to unblock a gully on the public highway or retrieve lost keys.
How long will you take to attend?
All calls are assessed and dealt with on a 1 to 3 priority basis. The anticipated response times are shown below:
Priority 1 - Flooding of property or pollution of a brookcourse - Attend within 90 minutes.
Priority 2 - Flooding of gardens/roads - Attend within 4 hours or better.
Priority 3 - Attend to routing incidents not likely to cause flooding - within 12 hours or next working day.
