Tell Us Once

Tell us once logoIf you've just had a baby

We can help you tell the people who need to know.

When you have a new baby, there are lots of things that need to be done. One of these things is contacting the government departments and local council services that need to be told about the birth. Until now, you had to contact all of them individually.

Sandwell Council is providing a service which can help you give the information to the Department of Work and Pensions. If you want they can pass this information on to a number of other organisations.

How can this service help you

You often have to contact several government departments and parts of the local council to give them the same information about the birth. It's important that you do this as soon as possible as it may affect your entitlements, such as Child Benefit, Working Tax Credits or Child Tax Credits.

We want to make this easier for you, so if you want to use the service after registering the birth we will ask you some simple questions. This means that you won't have to send a copy of the birth certificate in the post as will contact the organisations that need to know on your behalf.

How can you contact us to use the service

If you would like to use the service, please call 0121 569 2480 to make an appointment.

Tell us once logoWhen someone has died

When someone has died, there are lots of things that need to be done, at a time when you probably least feel like doing them. One of these is contacting government departments and local council services that need to be told.

Sandwell Council is providing a service which we hope will make things easier. This new service means that you can just tell us and these organisations will be contacted.

How the service can help you

When someone has died, their death needs to be registered with the Registrar. Once that's done, several other organisations may have to be contacted and given the same information.

We can help you to give the information to the Department for Work and Pensions and they can pass on this information to a number of other government departments and local council services for you.

How you can contact us to use the service

There are different ways you can use the service:

In person - If you would like to come and use the service please call 0121 569 2480 to make an appointment.   Our offices are open Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 4.30pm. Friday 8.30am - 4.00pm. You need to have registered the death before you see us.

By telephone - If you would like to speak to someone on the phone please call the Department for Work and Pensions on 0800 085 7308. The lines are open Monday to Friday between 8am and 8pm. This number is free to call from a BT landline, but other providers, including mobile phone providers, may charge you. If you don't speak English, call us on 0800 085 7308 and one of our Advisers and an interpreter will call you back and help you.

Nationality checking service

The Register Office now offers an optional service to those applicants who wish to take advantage of it. For a modest fee, they will check that applications for British nationality are completed correctly and have been submitted with all the necessary supporting documents and the correct fee.

Citizenship cermonies

In Sandwell approximately 500 people apply for British Citizenship each year.

At the ceremony, every applicant for British Citizenship is required to swear an oath of allegiance to the Crown and make a pledge to uphold the values and laws of the United Kingdom .
